Namespaces

A container is an organized collection of Namespaces. A namespace is a set of identifiers for a particular resource. They will be unique within the namespace but possibly repeated from one namespace to another. For instance within a container you can only have one PID 1, but another container can also have a PID 1.

  • PID (Process IDs)
  • net (network sandbox)
  • mnt (isolated root filesystem)
  • ipc (interproces communication)
  • uts (hostname)
  • user (map users inside container to different users on the host(currently optional))

(net,uts,IPC are shared in Kubernetes)

Control Groups (cgroups)

cgroups provide limits on resources available to a container
